My Politics

OUR SUCCESSFUL, TRADITIONAL FORM OF GOVERNMENT AND FREE ENTERPRISE IS SEVERELY THREATENED FROM WITHIN BY THOSE WHO INCORRECTLY THINK THAT CENTRAL GOVERNMENT IS THE BEST ROUTE TO PROSPERITY AND EQUALITY.

  • The greatest threat to the US is the surge of political power and organized action to sacrifice freedom and accountability in the interests of welfare and equality.  The magnitude of this battle and its aftermath threaten the viability of the US as a politically and economically free nation and also the physical security of the nation.
  • Those people who want state welfare choose to not see the overwhelming costs from sacrificing freedom, opportunity, and accountability.  They put unwarranted faith in government to regulate and influence the economy and behaviors of its citizens.

OUR CURRENT PATH OF GOVERNMENT LEADS TO DIRE OUTCOMES FOR AMERICANS, INCLUDING POTENTIAL STAGFLATION, BANKRUPTCY, AND A DOLLAR CRISIS.  THESE OUTCOMES WILL UNDERMINE OUR SECURITY IN THE WORLD.

  • We are losing our freedom to the incompetent, profligate hand of the federal government.   Government will increase taxes and borrow at unsustainable levels to pay for its rapidly expanding welfare state and regulatory footprint.
  • We are already the largest debtor nation in the world and new government debt in the next decade cannot be supported by US taxpayers, nor should we want it to continue to be funded by foreign lenders.
  • Runaway federal spending and borrowing will grind down our economy, putting extreme pressure on US businesses, workers, and taxpayers.  The dollar’s value will drop and interest rates will increase, leading to an ugly economic outcome – stagflation, or worse.
  • Virtually no incumbent politicians have the courage to confront our fiscal problems and deal honestly with solutions.  Instead we see spiraling growth in borrowing and spending, papering over reality, obscuring government failures, and wasting time.

CITIZENS MUST UNITE TO REVERSE OUR GOVERNMENT’S WELFARE STATE MENTALITY, SHRINK ITS FOOTPRINT, AND RESTORE FREEDOM, OPPORTUNITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY TO AMERICA.

  • Citizen legislators - who are fiscally prudent and responsible - must take control of Congress and eventually the White House.  We must bend the cost curve of the government welfare state: its spending, borrowing, and its regulatory footprint.
  • We must return the interpretation of the Constitution to those enumerated powers of the federal government, and return the remainder of power to the people and states.
  • We must create a regulatory footprint that provides for maximum competition in every marketplace and which provides consumers with freedom and broad choice of private solutions.  We must prohibit new public solutions and shrink existing public solutions.
  • Laissez faire alone is also not the answer.  There are areas where government must regulate, but these must be clearly defined and limited.  We must create regulation that ensures that no enterprise is too big to fail and which regulates those areas where taxpayers are at risk of paying for bad business decisions and fraud.
  • We must secure this nation from external and internal threats of violence, prevent terrorist groups from having safe havens, and prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
  • We must eliminate government cronyism that gives advantages to any interest group or industry regardless of how wealthy or powerful they are.
  • We must end taxpayer money going to community organizations.
  • We must apply market-based solutions to education, such as those being implemented in Washington, D.C.  public schools.
  • We must end the role of government in ‘social engineering’, mandating businesses to meet government targets to achieve its social goals.

REPUBLICANS MUST LEAD EFFORTS TO MEET SOCIAL NEEDS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.

  • I would sponsor and chair a team to identify all social needs of the 8th district and recommend and implement the means to fill these social needs.  I believe that social needs of the people in our communities are best provided by their neighbors and fellow community members, businesses and organizations, instead of relying on social welfare programs and bureaucrats in central government.
